Water damage questions we hear often in Lancaster
Leaks and small floods can turn into big repairs if moisture is trapped in drywall, cabinets, flooring or insulation. These answers cover the most common “what now?” questions so you can act fast and avoid mold and structural damage.
What should I do first when I discover water damage?
If there is an active leak, stop the source if it is safe—shut off the water valve, turn off the appliance, or call a plumber. Then protect safety: shut off electricity to affected areas if water is near outlets or panels. Move valuables, and document the damage with photos. The sooner drying starts, the better the outcome.
How quickly does mold start?
Mold risk increases when materials stay damp. In many situations, growth can begin within 24–48 hours. That is why we focus on fast extraction, airflow, dehumidification and targeted material removal when needed.
How long does a typical dry-out take?
Many residential dry-outs take 3–5 days, but it depends on where the water traveled (under flooring, inside walls, attic), the material types, and how quickly drying started. We track moisture and adjust equipment until levels return to normal.
Do I need to remove drywall and flooring?
Not always. If materials can be dried and sanitized properly, we try to save what is practical. If drywall is saturated, insulation is wet, or flooring has trapped moisture that cannot be dried, selective removal can prevent odor, warping and mold.
Should I file an insurance claim?
It depends on the cause and the scope. We can provide clear documentation, photos and an estimate so you can decide whether to involve insurance. Our goal is to give you straightforward options—no pressure.
